Freezing for fireworks... worth it!
I have a confession to make. Global Fest 2015 wasn't anywhere near the top of my list to do this summer and I haven't been for a couple years at least.
A string of happy coincidences meant I got the opportunity to see China kick off the yearly fireworks competition and looking back, I can't understand why I don't make this an annual tradition.
Admittedly, there is so much to see both on and off the park during the festival but yesterday I went purely for the fireworks competition. Set to various pieces of music, entrants from 5 countries compete on a number of levels.
From a photographic perspective it was the perfect chance to play around with remote shutter release. I loved being able to turn off my display, sit with the control in my lap and click almost as a visceral reaction to what I was watching. Luckily my half dead battery held out until the bus ride back to car and what I got was a happy surprise this morning.
From a personal perspective, this is one to add the long list of cool experiences this summer. If you have the chance to go, GO!
Pro tip: think camping gear when heading to Elliston Park - it will make your night a lot more comfortable. Camping chairs, blankets and charged batteries are all amazing inventions.
